The first Caroline County 4 H Boys Camp was held July 15 19 1962 at Camp Mardela near Denton with 42 boys attending. Activities included bird walks insect study forestry safety first aid and a campfire banquet. Led by University of Maryland Extension Service, the event featured instructors, donors, and a long list of assisting staff and counselors.

Pilgrim Holiness Camp Opens In Denton July 27
The 64th Pilgrim Holiness Camp Meeting starts today in Denton and runs through August 8. Rev. Mark H. Bowman of Denton is Camp Director with Rev. Gordon Miller of Kernersville as song evangelist and Rev. Roy S. Nicholson of Central, S C, and Rev. Robert Addington of Lock Haven, Pa., as evangelists. Daily services at 10:30 am 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm feature praise services and meetings for children and youth. Special services include Baptismal on Aug 1 Missionary Day Aug 2 and 3 Prayer for the Sick Aug 3 and Eastern Pilgrim College service Aug 4. Camp Grounds cover 11 acres on Camp Ground Road near Route 313 with 85 cottages 6 dormitories a dining hall for 350 and a 1000-seat tabernacle. District Superintendent Paul W. Thomas presided July 26. District Youth Camp is Aug 13–17 with Rev. William H. Miller director and Rev. Tommy Holshouser as engaged worker. Everyone is invited.

State Trooper Activity During The Past Week
The Maryland State Police report last week details two accidents on July 21 with injuries and vehicle damage. A Buick coupe driven by Thomas Leitch Segar Jr. collided with a Willys sedan driven by Imogene Hopkins. Hopkins was charged with failing to grant right of way. A second crash on Market Street left a Studebaker total loss. the driver, Marvin Patten, faced reckless driving and leaving the scene charges. Promotions announced for Troop D officers effective July 18, 1962 include Andrew to Lieutenant, Dykes to 1st Sergeant, Kirkpatrick to Sergeant, Weir to Corporal, Fraley to Trooper 1st class, Hurley to Trooper 1st class, and North to Trooper 1st class, with transfers to Easton, Salisbury, North East, Federalsburg, and related posts.

Saturday Night Storm Causes Widespread Damage
Severe thunderstorms struck Caroline County and nearby areas on Saturday night July 2 causing extensive damage. Utilities reported multiple outages across Denton Greensboro Ridgely and Kent Island with blown fuses damaged fuses poles and lines. A transformer burned near Tapper's Corner Talbot County. Fires started by lightning hit barns near Cordova and Wittman. The Delaware State Fair Grounds at Harrington suffered major damage including toppled ferris wheels and damaged equipment. Four thousand five hundred people were on site when the storm hit. Two wheel riders were treated for possible head injuries.

The State Convention of the American Legion and Auxiliary in Hagerstown Maryland awarded the Auxiliary the Maude Knight Trophy for child welfare work. Chairwoman Mrs Charles Willis led extensive aid including 130 Christmas recipients and 200 other children aided during the year with toys food and clothing from local partners.

McLaughlin Dominates Georgetown Competition
Jackie McLaughlin of Thorofare New Jersey extended his win streak to five 25 lap features at the Delmarva 14 mile dirt oval last Friday. Horace Williams of Bridgeville led the feature for 15 laps before mechanical trouble. Paul Walker chased McLaughlin through the 25 laps as Glenn Guthrie took third with Johnny Martin Phil Gemenden George Harrison Bill Larah and Wally Ryan following. Al Dillenger won the 15 lap Hobby seat and the Limited Sportsman heat. Bobby Hough Earl Ridley Howard Webb Jack Fitzgerald Pierce Hammond and Ed Hawthorne raced in the Hobby final. Mirowski flipped but returned with a battered car. Gemenden won the Sportsman heat over Ryan Cummings Smith Williams and Sadler. Walker won the fastest heat, beating Guthrie McLaughlin Martin and Larah. Budd Olsen and Herby Tillman retired. The club announced Friday’s Silver Stakes and a following 10 car Demolition Derby.
