R. Closs got on the ticketFriday. He took the oath as a candidate from City Sect. Raymond Baker for Northwest Ward. The other two signed up last week. They are f at fish Smith represent ins the Southwest Ward a^d Ted Getterman fiom the North central ward. Getterman is expected to be the next Waco mayor. He is serving as mayor pro tern now. Lither Smith or Closs will be named by fellow councilmen, as mayor pro tern.Closs is president of the Austin-Closs Co., a family-owned business. He and his wife, former Dorothy Austin, have three children, Mrs. Larry (Cindy) Stone of Corpus Christi; Susan Closs, a Junior at Baylor; Ace Closs, a Baylor SophGoss was born March 9. 1926, in Brazos county, Texas. He was educated in the Bryan schools, getting a BA degree from Baylor and was on the Varsity football squad in 1947,J. R. Cl,OSS48 and 49.Closs served with the U. S. Marines in Pacific. He is a member of Austin Ave. United Methodist Church. He is an active civic leader.Closs issued this statement: “We have many programs that are moving forward to make Waco a better place to live and work One of the more exciting is the “Goals for Waco. Mayor Oscar DuCongehas just announced ourorganization structure and timetable to accomplish completion prior to our Nations Bicentennial Celebration, July 4,1976. Under the title of “Waco Horizon 2000“We will be moving into the first year of funding lt;$5.6 million) under the Community Development Act. The Ward Boards and CDC Commission have and will continue to render valuable service to Waco. We have initiated our first year on street improvements through the so-called Reverse Petition Paving. Our Health Program is continuing to move forward.“There are many areas where we need increased funding and attention, for one we have some areas where dilapidated sewer lines (built in World War 1) must be replaced. We need increased Police patrols to fight the ever-increasing crime rate. 1 feel confident that we will continue moving forward in all these and other areas and the blue print that evolves from the Waco Horizon 2000 will be a tremendous asset to future ( ity Councils.
