He is from Markham. He was a member of a company at Great Lakes Naval Training center that took every recruit training honor the Navy has to offer. That is not very important. What is important is that this all took place in peacetime. The important thing about Walter Makaryk is that he is not so different from anyone else and that there are many like him and that he was a member of Company 326. 1st Regiment. 11th Battalion, U.S. Naval Training center, Great Lakes, which carried 12 flags of various colors across the wide parade-ground grass past the reviewing stand on graduation day, turning an eyes right toward G. E. Duckworth, Company Commander, and passing on to further assignments in the Navy, leaving Duckworth to turn his attention to other men and other matters.“I seen ’em come and I seen 'em go.” is a phrase reserved for use by any Navy officer who has accumulated enough time under Navy regulations to retain a hooked finger from hanging onto a coffee cup too long.Company 326 will stay in Duckworth's mind. Our Oil Heat tops ’em all!We give you a great deal..*• Sinclair Premium-Quality Heating Oil with RD-119* corrosion inhibitor—so dif-ferent it’s patented.• Specialized Burner Service.• Sinclair Monthly Payment Budget Plan.SinclairNon-Partisan Voters INTERESTED IN GOOD GOVERNMENTSUPPORTJAMES A.HAINESCandidate for MayorAs a group of non-partisan businessmen, industrial people and just plain average citizens interested in the best possible government for our community we wholeheartedly endorse the candidacy of James A. Haines for rfiayor.Haines is young, vigorous, an experienced and successful businessman, a person with convictions and the courage to carry them out. He has compiled an enviable record as the president of Grade school district 152, has what we consider a sound program for civic improvement. He is not a man to be bullied and he will forsake popularity for honesty and achievement. We believe that James Haines will give to the Harvey City Council the type of leadership that will move our community ahead. He has not made rash promises to get votes. His practical and inexpensive program for improving police efficiency, his sensible plans for the erection of a new city hall, his awarenes of the need for a master plan providing for the future growth of the city are evidence of his keen insight into the community needs. He will not hesitate to seek counsel from qualified people. He has the Harvey viewpoint and knows well that if this city is to improve its status action must be taken in acquiring parking facilities, expanding library facilities and providing maximum protection for thecitizens. We believe James Haines has developed a sensible, practical approach to solving the problems which face this community and on this basis we urge every voter interested in the welfare of Harvey to vote for James Haines in Tuesday's primary.JAMES A.HAINESFOR MAYORA Businessman - A Tested Public Official Who Will Help Move Harvey ForwardPLATFORM:1. I believe Harvey has a great future. Our community is blessed with industry, business and fine educational facilities. I intend not only to preserve the present assets but to augment them by effecting economies in the operation of the government and using funds saved thereby to increase other vital services now lacking.2. I will exert myself toward pushing our city ahead mentally, morally and physically. My five years on the Board of Education of District 152 indicates my interest in the mental upgrading of our city. My record includes vast expansion in educational facilities without adding one cent to the taxpayers' bill. These same principles can be applied to our city government.3. I pledge an aggressive, informed administration. To be effective a city council must be aggressive, unafraid to adopt policies and make decisions which will benefit the community over the long run. It must chart a course then push toward the objectives. I promise I will be fully informed on all community problems before the remedies are enacted into law. I will move deliberately and with sincere purpose.4. I will work closely with the Association oi Commerce and Industry and merchants to solve mutual problems.I will not, as has the present council, dispose of any existing parking facilities. Rather, I will establish a close working relationship with the ACI in doing whatever is possible to increase our city's stature as a good plac' in which to shop.5. I am in favor of a new city hall adequate to house government departments.I will work toward obtaining new city hall facilities, but I will not sacrifice existing parking lots for the purpose. I will conduct an exhaustive study of our needs, of sites and costs of construction and, being a builder by profession, I believe I am qualified to get such a building at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayer. I will not use parking meter revenue for the purpose. m6. I will seek the services of a qualified city planner.I agree with the Association of Commerce that a master plan for the city's growth in the future is a must. I will work closely with the professional planners toward assuring the orderly planned growth of this community.7. I believe our library facilities are inadequate and I will give this immediate consideration. The library is the center of culture of this city. It must be adequate to meet the demands and to fully serve its purpose must be expanded. I will give immediate attention to devising a plan for expanding the physical plant and the services offered.8. I believe the police and fire departments have been tampered with politically and this should stop immediately.I will insist that vacancies occuring on the administration levels of these departments be filled by qualified personnel from the departments themselves. This I believe will lead to a new high in efficiency, give employees an inspiration to do better worktSouthOIL CO.ED.1-4600James A.
