Port’s Watry, Heatwole West Bend’s Techtman/Reach State Mat SemisThree area wrestlers — one' from West Bend and two from Port Washington — survived the quarterfinal round in the state WIAA tournament at Madison Friday.Jerry Techtman of West Bend, in his third state tournament appearance, met Larry Gonzales of Oak Creek in today’s semi-final match while Port Washington’s Tom Watry met Rich Hinebaugh of Monroe and Scott Heatwole met Tom Berg of Beaver Dam.Stoughton is the team leader after the quarters, qualifying three boys for the semifinal match and piling up eight points. Portage, Port Washington and Milwaukee Tech all qualified two. Defending champion Racine Park was eliminated.Sheboygan's only entrant at the state meet was Mike Sachse of South, who lost his first match to Tom Glass of Ellsworth, 5-1, at 120. Glass went on to win his quarterfinal match, and today met Rod Bolstad of De Soto in the semis.Techtman, a 120 pounder de-cisioned Dan Hoff of Turtle Lake in the preliminaries, 14-5, and ici his quarterfinal match, pinned Dick Beattie of Antigo.Port’s 180 pound Watry deci-sioned Jim Leary of Rice Lake, 7-1, in his preliminary match, and then posted a 6-2 win over Kevin Milliken of Neenah.Heavyweight Heatwole of Port decisioned Dan Bedora of Coleman, 1-0, and then blanked Ron Bleck of Phillips, 4-0.Other wrestlers of area interest still in at the semifinal stage are Vern Soeldner of Manitowoc and Larry Pitts of Green Bay Southwest. S o e 1 d n e r, a heavyweight who decisioned Dick Huss of Kaukauna, 10-3, and then decisioned Tim Brandt of Antigo, 3-2.
